If you or someone you love has been bitten by a dog, the owner of that dog is responsible for your injuries. There is a statute in place in the State of Ohio, as well as case law based on court cases that have been decided in the State of Ohio, which provides that if a dog bites somebody or otherwise injures them, the owner is responsible for the injuries. The statute that governs dog bites is what is known as a “strict liability statute.” This means that you do not have to prove that the dog owner was negligent or that the dog was vicious or that the dog had bitten someone previously. All that matters is that the individual owned the dog and the dog bit someone. If you are bitten by a dog, the owner of that dog is responsible for your injuries, your medical bills, your pain and suffering and your lost of time from work, etc. Often we can make a claim to the homeowners insurance coverage of the dog owner.
